A RTS, get it? Maybe a bit of an ArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrTS. I’m writing this on the 19th, but scheduling it for the weekend, a shame.
In Republic of Pirates, you’re out for revenge after being betrayed and starting largely from scratch on building a new fleet to right being wronged. You have a city builder aspect for resource generation, working to keep everyone fed, clothed, and entertained. You need to build a new fleet and defend your settlements. As you get settled, you can take back to the seas, engaging in piracy and taking over settlements from rival fleets to bolster your own.
Overall, it plays well enough, and it’s not too complicated. I did eventually hit a point, a few hours into the demo, of being sorta…bored. I felt a bit limited in what I can expand on or build shipwise, and the fairly hard limit on ships kinda kills the whole excitement of looking to build up a fleet, especially where it seemed like a captain was permanently assigned, so if you built something bigger and better suited, you were out of luck.
The demo is still out to try and provides a good amount of gameplay, and the game itself is currently on sale from it’s normal 24.99 price.
