Described as an “inventory management roguelike RPG”, Megaloot killed a good evening for me with clearing the demo dungeon.
You pick your character and additional traits to make things harder or easier, while adjusting your gold gain with it. Inventory management really is core to the game, but not in the traditional sense of making decisions of what to pick up or not. Every item belongs to sets based on it’s traits, and you’re limited to three sets. So you have to make decisions based on that, especially where some items count as more than one. You can convert items into stats, regaining armor or other bonuses for the fight you’re in at the cost of an action. You can combine items of the same rarity to upgrade them.
This all adds for a lot of choice and variety per run. The combat is simple enough on the surface, you get one action that is attack focused, and one that is defense focused, then the front row of monsters get to attack. Just like with the player, there is no shortage of monster traits they might have, making your choice of which to eliminate key to survival.
Megaloot has a Q3 launch window, and the demo is still up on it’s Steam Page for anyone convince to try it out.
