So, CivIdle is going to be hard for me to write about in length because it’s very much…not for me. I like Civ, I like idlers, but, this one doesn’t work for me. Which doesn’t make it bad, and I can still see the appeal for others.
It’s a fairly low-graphics game where you build on your progressively generated map with resources popping up based on your tech level. You have to manage them and upgrade them, trying to work towards the idler goal of number go up.It’s certainly on the more active side in what I’ve played, and in what others have talked about it so far.
It’s UI is still, hopefully, a work in progress in being able to tell you about all of this it seems. It felt a bit hard to navigate overall, and hard to get an overall feel for how you’re doing. It does have a retro-inspired feel to it, ala Windows 98SE.
The game also features a global chat with other players, that as far as I can tell, in the demo version, cannot be turned off. This is probably to help with trading with other players, which is a novel feature I’m not sure I’ve seen in many other games of this type.
The game has a love it or hate it vibe, as is apparent from it’s Steam reviews so far, which is still at mostly positive. CivIdle is free and in early access, for anyone looking to give it a try.
