Citadelum takes actual historical events as a basis for a campaign, building cities to meet that mission’s goals. You’re tasked with building from your starter resources into a full fledged city, largely self-reliant on the nearby resources, but open to trade. It’s unsure from the demo vs the Steam page if the campaign aspect is carried over the same, maybe it’s just for the tutorial.

After building your city gates, a required piece that links you to the main roads of the area, you fill in with worker housing, markets, and aqueducts. As you grow, you start building farms, bakeries, and vineyards. All well rendered in a way that’s nice to look at, without feeling too taxing. Once established enough, the gods take notice and you will need to earn their favor, but, also gain their boons if you do.

It all felt fun and engaging in the demo, a good way to kill a few hours to see it through and looks like it’ll have mod support for additional replayability. Citadelum releases on October 17th, and looks like it’ll be a great addition to the genre.
