A modern take on the classic Asteroid, Bollide’s a bit tricky at first. The main thing to learn off the bat is that you can only rotate, and go forward/reverse for movement, and space physics are in play. That means if you’re moving, you’re going to keep speeding up until an opposing force is in play. Something you have to manage while dodging and blasting space rock.
Fortunately, it’s not so bad once you’re used to it, and get to mostly making small movements, letting your firepower take care of the rest. Wave completion seems to be based on the amount of asteroids destroyed, so as you clear and get skill points to spend on things like spreadshot and more simultaneous bullets…things get way easier. Then you hit the challenge waves every 5 levels…
Challenge waves I’ve seen so far have affected various factors, like smaller bullets that do less damage, invisible bullets so you’re not sure what’s going to be hit or not, or my worst…you can only rotate one direction…making controlling your ship that much harder.
At the 40th wave, it turns into an endless mode, putting you to the test against an increasing amount, and increasingly fast asteroids. Your reward after the run, tokens based on the XP earned, used to unlock customizations. From the looks of the trailers vs my own runs, there is a whole lot I haven’t seen or will come in the full release.
The demo is out early ahead of Next Fest, with a full release just afterwards on March 7th.
