Is regular poker not enough for you? What if you had different jokers with different bonuses? What if your deck no longer had to be 52 cards? What if…
Surprisingly fun, given it’s hard to say what one should expect if you pitched to them “ok, but, what if you played poker as a roguelike deckbuilder.” Your goal is to gain a certain number of chips vs a small, big, and boss blind with increasing stakes. The boss blind also will come with it’s own special twists such as making an entire suit worthless, or causing your opening hand to be drawn face down.
You’ll be able to hit these lofty goals by using tarot and planet cards to buff individual cards or the payout of hands (such as straight or flush), removing cards or changing their suits, and collecting jokers to give passive bonuses such as multipliers, but only for cards of a certain suit, or a random multiplier from 0x to 20x.
Balatro has just launched today, possibly while I was writing this, and is 14.99 USD, with an introductory 10% off. It has no shortage of reviews giving it some worthwhile praise.
