Known as Top Gear outside of Japan, the Top Racer games were classic racing games from the 16-bit era. They were some of the best racing games of their time, and have been updated for modern consoles and PC.
Also being released as part of the collection is Crossroads, a new game in the same retro style as the originals. The demo gives you access to one track for each game. I must say they played just as well as I remember, which is to say that either I’m first place or it feels like the computer is cheating. I’m not sure I could give it any more of a glowing endorsement than this.
Steam will warn that controllers aren’t supported, but ignore that, it’s the best way to play and my xbox controller was recognized properly. You’re able to play split-screen, like you would have for two players back in the day, and seems to support online multiplayer as well.
Top Racer Collection just launched on the 7th, at 19.99 with 10% off currently for launch.
