I might be dating myself a bit with that reference, but it gave me those vibes with it’s tray at the bottom of the screen rather than a regular free floating or fullscreen window.

Rusty’s Retirement leans into the idle game aspect with aiming to take up a lil bit of space at the bottom of the screen and have Rusty, friends, and helper bots farm away. Like most idlers, it’s a bit more active at the start as the crops take less time to grow and harvest and you lack automation. You’ll eventually unlock more crops as you harvest the lesser ones, with the new crops trending to provide more harvests and take more time to grow than prior crops.

Harvested crops will give you some currency (spare parts) when harvested, and three different crops can be combined to make biofuel, a secondary currency. You’ll spend the former for crops, and both for upgrades, with the helper bots needing fuel to power themselves. After a while, your fuel will likely outpace what you need and can be converted 1:10 to parts. This makes for a nice windfall to buy the more expensive upgrades like houses for your friends. Also the most important upgrade, a bench, to allow Rusty to enjoy his retirement once you’ve got a bit of automation set up.

The demo’s still available to try for idler fans. You’ll have a more limited play space than the full version looks like it’ll have, but plenty of room to give you an impression of how it all works. It’s pretty charming overall, and had it open and running as I typed this all up.
